From the heart of Jalapão to the coast of São Paulo: a family tradition that embraces the pace of nature.
The Hands That Tell Stories
“Hello, it's a pleasure! Welcome to our home.”
My name is Thalis, and I take immense pride in being the bridge between my parents' artisanal genius and people who, like you, see poetry in things made slowly and with soul. Arte da Floresta was born within our family. The creative heart of this work beats in the hands of my father, Carlos Alberto — affectionately known by everyone as "Gaúcho", the nickname that comes from his birthplace, Santa Cruz do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul —, and of my mother.
Before golden grass, my father already worked with handcraft — in southern Bahia, where he lived, the strongest tradition was with coconut shell, piaçava, babassu, palm-oil coconut and licuri. Golden grass came to him by chance: a friend introduced him to the material, and his first reaction was distrust — my father preferred the darker, woodier tones of the craft he already knew. The material sat unsold in his shop for about two weeks, until he noticed customers were interested: they found it refined, tasteful. That demand is what drove him to learn to truly work with golden grass — and he learned fast. From then on, he never stopped perfecting his craft, until reaching the welcoming physical store we have today in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, and this digital space that now reaches you.
Botanical Gold — The Origin in Jalapão
Our main raw material and greatest source of inspiration is Golden Grass (Capim Dourado, Syngonanthus nitens), a rare botanical species that grows exclusively in the humid fields of the Cerrado, concentrated in the Jalapão region of Tocantins. The stems of this plant grow with a shimmering color reminiscent of polished gold.
There are no chemical dyes, no synthetic coatings, no artificial varnishes: the shine is a pure gift of plant biology and the Cerrado sunlight. Alongside it, we work with Buriti Palm Fiber, drawn from the tall palm trees of Brazil's wetland veredas, with sturdy, pliable weaves that bring texture, contrast and tactile warmth to every piece.
Respecting the Forest's Cycles
For us, a piece of jewelry only has true value if it respects the life it came from. Golden Grass can only be harvested within a restricted window of the year — between September and November — under strict oversight and environmental guidelines that ensure the stem has already released and spread its seeds into the soft soil of the wetlands.
This ancestral practice not only prevents the species from going extinct, it also ensures the fields turn green again every spring. Every piece you wear carries that birth certificate: conscious craftsmanship that honors the forest's cycle and the tradition of those who work with it.
The Unique Imperfection of Every Piece
When you choose a biojewelry piece from Arte da Floresta, you are not buying a mass-produced item or an accessory forgotten on an industrial line. You receive a piece individually sculpted by Gaúcho: woven point by point with the noble fibers of buriti palm; with harmonious spirals and curves shaped without rushing; so light on the skin that it feels like it floats, bringing elegance without any weight or discomfort.
“I feel flattered. I have customers of all ages, from the youngest to those in their 40s and 50s — and people who love gold are amazed and want a piece of their own. When they find out it's made from grass, it sparks even more curiosity.”
The Family's Invitation
Today, seeing over 30 years of our work reach customers across Brazil and around the world, we feel deep gratitude. Arte da Floresta is the result of a lifetime of handwork, family unity and respect for what Brazilian nature offers. Whether for a special occasion or everyday wear, thank you for being part of our journey.
With love and respect, Thalis, Gaúcho and the Arte da Floresta Family
